JK Rowling says she is okay with fan fiction
JK Rowling says that she is totally okay with Harry Potter fan fiction, as long it doesn’t contain any racism or pornography (that shoots down quite a bit, I think!).
JK ROWLING has given the go-ahead to copycat writers posting “fan fiction” sequels to Harry Potter on the internet.
The author will not take legal action against American George Lippert, 37, who wrote a sequel to the wizard’s adventures on his website.
Rowling’s decision is expected to cause a surge in the number of unauthorised tales by fans.
Her lawyers confirmed the author would be happy for spin-offs to be published online, provided it was made clear she was not involved and the publications were not sold.
She also requested that the follow-ups do not contain any racism or pornography.
The fan fiction in question is called James Potter and the Hall of Elders’ Crossing, and it will be coming out in December. The author states that he just wrote the story for fun for his kids; it’s not meant to be a definitive sequel or anything. I’m glad that JK Rowling officially gave her OK, because there is a TON of Harry Potter fan fiction out there.
