Well, folks - Moaning Myrtle has something new to moan about. She’s been officially cut from the remaining Harry Potter films (at least Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) , which, honestly I’m not that upset about. The only part she figures prominently in is comforting Draco after he gets cut with the Sectumsempra spell, and even then, she’s SO ANNOYING.
I’m beginning to wonder if they’re making Half-Blood Prince as lean as possible only to make up for it in the two-parter that will be Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. So far, they’ve cut quite a lot: Dumbledore’s funeral (grrrrr), Moaning Myrtle, Tonks and Lupin, and Katie Bell.
Oh, well, Here’s a good clip of Moaning Myrtle being her annoying self. Does it bother you to see her cut, or are you okay with it?
Yep, it’s true! Tom Felton, who plays the character of Draco Malfoy, is trying to get a musical career going, and you know what? He’s actually not that bad. Here’s a few videos; first, “Time Well Spent Medley”:
SUPER long update for you today; here’s a summary:
The inside of The Burrow was amazing, the attention to detail. I climbed up the stairs to Ron’s room, the bedrooms aren’t there but the corridors have doors coming off them with pictures and ornaments. One of the doors had a picture of mushroom on it. Downstairs there were two clocks, one with the whole family’s names on and scissors for hands, the other was smaller with a list of jobs to do. There were even postcards to Ron on the bookcase, howlers (or just letters like paper aeroplanes), a wizarding newspaper on a coffee table and children’s painting of magical creatures framed on the walls. The guy showing us around said that it was the hardest set to build because nothing was straight or regular sized.
The Gryffindor common room was quite small. It is still the exact same set from previous films. As you walk in the door (no picture frame entrance here) there are a set of pegs on the right with Gryffindor cloaks, bags and someone’s tie hanging up.
I came across a few great movie goofs in the Harry Potter movies. Here are just a few samples:
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
A giant Cerebus drools a huge glob of sticky drool onto Ron’s shoulder. Then he jumps through the trap door and when he lands, his shoulder is clean.
When Percy is telling the first years where their rooms are at, he states that the boys are “up the stairs and to the left, girls the same but to the right”. After meeting fluffy for the first time, Hermione goes to the left and the boys to the right.
Rowling lifted the main points of her plot from the novel, Ender’s Game, along with other novels.
Rowling is a hypocrite for getting upset about the Harry Potter Lexicon when her own novels have borrowed plots and characters.
The article’s author puts forth the premise that this lawsuit is more about respect in the eyes of other authors, rather than a full-scale copyright infringement.
I think I agree with some of his points; not having read the novel “Ender’s Game”, I can’t really speak to that. Read the article and then come back and tell us what you think: is JK Rowling a literary genius? Or is she just another copycat? Discuss!
A couple of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince updates for you that I’ve picked up at a fewplaces:
Jessie Cave, who plays Lavendar Brown, talks about kissing Rupert Grint: “It was a bit embarrassing. Our first screen kiss was on my third day of shooting.” says Jessie. “It’s been an amazing experience though. I’ve been completely immersed in the Harry Potter world since filming started last year.” Not content with just starring in one of the biggest film franchises of the century, the former art student is also working on publishing a book of her illustrations.
Also, it’s rumored and almost officially confirmed that Clemence Poesy (Fleur Delacaour) will not appear in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Which sucks, but I kind of saw this one coming. No Fleur and Bill, no Tonks and Lupin….geez, I thought we were splitting the movie into two parts so we could, you know, FIT ALL THIS STUFF IN THERE.
As I watching clips from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix today, specifically, the following video:
I noticed that each character holds their wands decidedly differently. For instance:
Voldemort holds his loosely in the palm of his hand
Bellatrix Lestrange holds her like a weapon, almost like a knife
Harry holds his like he is holding a hammer or a tool
Dumbledore holds his like a conductor’s wand
Hermione holds hers like a pointer, or a chalk piece
Ron holds his like a baseball bat
Umbridge holds holds hers like she’s trying to blow bubbles with it
And on and on. Obviously, how a person holds their wands is directly related to their characters’ unique personality. Voldemort’s wand grip intrigues me the most; he always looks like he’s about to drop the thing, like he has no regard for it. Here’s a better clip to show you what I’m talking about:
See what I mean? Very intriguing.
So! Two things: If you had a wand, how would you hold it? I think I’m in the Hermione crowd; however, being that I’m excessively klutzy, I would probably fashion some sort of loop (kind of like on the Nintendo Wii controllers) so it wouldn’t get lost. Secondly, what do you think of how Voldemort holds his wand? What do you think it says about him?
I know that (unfortunately) the Harry Potter Lexicon has been in the news for other reasons, but I tell ya - if you haven’t poked around this wonderful site, you really need to. Here’s what I’ve been looking at this morning:
The kiss between Cho and Harry has been nominated as one of the best kisses of the year in the MTV Movie Awards; you can go vote for it here. Do you think it’s the best kiss? Come on:
According to a couple of different sources, the following is happening with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince:
The only scene Natalia Tena (Tonks) has filmed for the movie, isn’t actually in the book at all.
She was only on set for the part where Death Eaters attack the Burrow at Christmas (where Harry & the Weasleys are present).
She said that none of the angst of her character is there - indeed, she and Lupin are just suddenly a couple when they meet there.
Oh, but that’s not the worst of it (although that is bad enough). No. This is the worst of it.
THEY HAVE CUT DUMBLEDORE’S FUNERAL.
What. The. Hell. Is. Wrong. With. These. People. That scene is CRUCIAL to the series. What, are we just going to cut away from his broken body and go on our merry way? Plus, Remus got majorly shafted in the books themselves (not to mention Tonks) and now obviously the movies are just making sure we really get it.
Does JK Rowling really approve of this? Honestly, how crappy is this movie going to be without the closure of Dumbledore’s funeral?!?!?!?!?
