John Williams confirmed for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
John Williams, the composer for such little films as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, you know, stuff you’ve never heard of? Well, he’s signing back on to the Harry Potter train as the composer for the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows score. Yee hah!
Hi All!
I just got back from the Berkshire Museum’s “Joys of Tanglewood” lecture series (I live about five minutes down the road from the museum). The last lecture of the season was with our man John Williams!
This is the third time I have met Mr. Williams and as always he was a gracious, witty, and entertaining speaker. The host asked John questions, gave the audience background information on John, and played excerpts from various pieces. I tried to get a question in at the end of the lecture but I was never called on.
I was also one of about six people in the audience that was not receiving monthly letters from the AARP. With almost two hundred people in attendance I would say about 99% were over the age of 70. wow! Where are all the younger fans?
Highlights from the lecture included:
-Stories about having lunch with Alfred Hitchcock and Williams being told that suspense music doesn’t need to be scary all the time because “murder can be fun!”
-Williams giving advice to an young aspiring film composer to study the great “composers” rather than the great film composers only.
-Williams talking about his excitement to start work on the next Indiana Jones movie, which he said he will begin in October.
There were some great moments for me personally. My friend June and I arrived just before the doors closed so the only seats available were way in the back. I turned around to inform June of our bad seat situation and who is literally standing right behind her?! John Williams! I whispered, “turn around” and as she did John looked at her and gave her a wink! Ha!
I was also able to meet John and have him sign my Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban disc as Well as my 1996 Summon The Heroes disc.
I asked John if he was hoping to score the last Harry Potter film and stated that he was sorely missed on the last two films (not to detract from Doyle’s or Hooper’s excellent work). He said with confidence that he thinks he will be back for the last and then added that he hopes he is! Woo-Hoo!
Basically, if a composer with the credentials of John Williams says he “hopes” to be doing your score, you know it’s a pretty sure thing that he is.

If John Williams is scoring the Deathly Hallows, then you can hope for at least one oscar win for the picture. John has a unique voice and talent for music. Unlike most composers, he doesnt compose music for films, he composes them for general listening as well. All of John Williams scores are beautiful to listen to and if John is composing for DH then WOW!! thats all i can say.
