Hagrid actor Robbie Coltrane will celebrate 50 years of motorways in Britain

Can you imagine?

HAGRID needed all of his magical powers to squeeze himself into a vintage sports car.

Harry Potter actor Robbie Coltrane will travel the length of Britain in a tiny 1958 Jaguar XK 150 to celebrate 50 years of motorways in Britain.

But ITV producers had no idea if they’d be able to get the larger-than-life Scot into the car after signing him up for the show.

They had to search Scotland for a similar car for a "fitting" and when they found one in Renfrewshire, they needed to make several changes to get 6ft 1in Robbie into it.

The 57-year-old had to put the soft top down to get in to the car and even then his head was above the windscreen.

The TV team will have to take the padding out of the driver’s seat to lower Robbie down before he can start his trip.

Robbie, who owns several classic cars of his own, fell in love with the vintage vehicle when he saw it.

He said: "This is beautiful, look at the workmanship on that - I love it."

He will drive the Jaguar from Glasgow to London, along the winding B-road route people took before 1957, in the show called Robbie Coltrane’s Incredible Britain.

A spokeswoman for ITV said: "Robbie has set himself a formidable challenge.

"With a nose for adventure, driving as far off the beaten track as possible, he’ll discover for himself what we’ve built as a country - what we do and who we really are - through the stories of the people he meets."
