Emma Thompson chooses Nanny McPhee over Harry Potter
November 12, 2008 by Wendy Boswell
Oh noes! Professor Trelawney, aka Emma Thompson, has chosen the sequel to Nanny McPhee over coming back to Harry Potter. Say it ain’t so! Here’s what she had to say about it:
“No, no, no,” the Oscar winner insisted when we asked whether she’d be returning as Professor Sybil Trelawney in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”. “I’m making my own ‘Nanny McPhee’ next year. They mean much more to me.”….“The Harry Potters are great big franchises that are something I’m not emotionally attached to or necessarily particularly creatively attached to,” Thompson explained. “That’s more like doing a turn, whereas the Nanny McPhees are something I’ve written. The art is in those films, they’re very handmade, they’re something that’s very close to me. Those are the ones I really care about.”

Well, it’s certainly a bummer to not have Emma in the film, but I do have to say I’m super excited about another Nanny McPhee movie. I loved the first one!!!

I agree - it’s a bummer but we loved Nanny McPhee and are excited for another one!
She is a brillant actor and it makes sense…why would she chose a minor role over a lead one?
It makes sense that she chose Nanny McPhee over Harry Potter but this means no dropping of crystal balls during the Battle of Hogwarts.
That was an amazing part.
