Well, this isn’t good! The place where owls were supplied for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is being investigated by the RSPCA; none of the birds that were used in the film are thought to be under investigation at this time. Here’s what the local councillor had to say:

“It was notices some of the birds were in a bad state. Some of the birds of prey had been used to scare other birds scavenging on the nearby Welbeck tip instead of mechanical bird scarers.”

Hopefully they’ll get this all straightened out; it doesn’t sound like there was active abuse of the animals going on, just not good hygiene and conditions. You can read more about this investigation here.
