The Ten Most Important Spells in Harry Potter

Obviously, there are a LOT of spells in the Harry Potter books. They range from mundane (occulus reparo) to the truly spectacular (expecto patronus!). I thought it would be interesting to make a list of the ten most important - in my opinion, anyway - spells in Harry Potter. In no particular order, here they are:
1) Accio: Basically, the Accio spell is for people too lazy to walk across the room and grab the remote (like me). Also comes in handy when you want a snack but you JUST got in the perfect couch groove with the pillows just right.
2) Expelliarmus: Used to disarm other wizards. Harry used this quite successfully in his tussles with Voldemort.
3) Incendio: Produces fire. We saw Hagrid do this in the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
4) Locomotor: Used to move objects around, i.e., “locomotor couch!” Super useful when you’re moving, I would think.
5) Muffliato: Causes your conversations to be muffled, hence the “muff” in muffliato. I would totally do this in church.
6) Reparo: Repairs broken objects. Can you imagine how much cashola you could rake in with this one? “Sure, I’ll fix your VCR - that’ll be $500. (ten seconds later) All done!”
7) Scougify: Technically, this one is a charm, but I’m putting it in here anyway. You can use Scourgify to clean something, like my bathroom. This little spell alone makes being a wizard worthwhile.
Episkey: Heals minor injuries. Obviously very useful.
9) Geminio: Creates duplicates of objects, i.e., “Geminio raspberry-filled donut!” Much like the Star Trek replicator.
10) Lumos: Creates light. I would totally, TOTALLY create a light show with this one to Pink Floyd songs. Who’s with me?

Actually food can’t be duplicated as it’s one of the 5 laws in magic in the Harry Potter world…

Actually, you can duplicate food. If you have it. You can’t conjure food out of thin air, or transfigure something that’s not food into food, but if you know where it is you can use the ‘accio’ spell to get it or if you have some, you can duplicate it. Check the book.
Okay, I just found it; you can summon food if you know where it is, you can transform it, you can increase the quantity if you’ve already got some. From the words of Hermione.

i think lumos would be the best for me at this moment– studying for all my exams– it would definitely be put to use in my nervous study sessions… lol

I think Avada Kedavra should be up there, Potter never performed it but if it wasn’t for that curse there would be no Harry Potter.
In my opinion the Bat Bogey Hex is not deserving to be on this list.
I, perhaps, would have chosen a few different spells, but for the most part the list is well done.
expecto patronum:creates a patronus

Refilling was described as charm and did not seem to be included in the five exceptions to Gamps law of elemental transfiguration.
Nox would also seem logical if you want to use Lumos.
Super sensory - Ron said he could use it when driving, who wouldn’t use it in any major city?
Episkey fixes nose bleeds/broken noses. Apparently not much more. HP in the last book realises this lack of knowledge in healing injuries is a serious deficient in his magical education and make a note to ask Hermione.
What about Stupefy and Levicorpus?
i was surprised some spells weren’t on there like… Reducto, Expecto patronum, and my personal favourate(sorry can’t spell) is Levicorpus

I wish i could have a magic wand like harry’s but i know it would be a fake. i have all the spells for example: Germinio , Tergeo , Peskipiksi Pesternomi , Nox and like that i have many . I enjoy these all things but the craziest thing is I am an Maldivian

voldemort 55’s spells are more suitable for defence, really. but the ones in the article are more suited for everyday life. or lazy ppl.

What about the fillididus(forgot how to spell it) charm? The one that protects harry his whole life? the charm that was produced by harry’s mother by giving her life because she loved harry so much? the charm that basically is one of the most important spells even though it is not used reguarly or even have to say it to use it!
what about engorgio it makes somthing gow in size i would so use it on a dounat
actually i know a potion that tops all this….. its felexis felixis it is a luck potion so if you wonted anything it would just pop up because you get lucky (its in 6th book.. harry wins it from that teacher and when him and dumbledore leave to find the horcrux he gives to ron hermione and ginny… and when the death eaters come they get lucky and dodge all theyre spells)
stupefy should defintly be one it stuns ur enemy
i’m an avid harry potter fan i collect every thing that i know related to harry potter in this discussion i think that some of the written spells or charms its upsetting that you didn’t wrote the petronas charm and Expelliarmus,Wingardium Leviosa and many others .thats all

I would have to add, Protego?! Duh, would you wanna’ be hit with a spell all the time? And I would need “Point Me” (Acts as a compas) Really helpful. Hmm and, Avis and then Opungo (I think that’s how you spell it.) Yeah so, those 2 because you do Avis then everyone is like, “Oh, pretty birds!” lol then, Opungo, AAAARRRGGG! The birds attack your enemys, lol. That’s all for now.

Being a dark lord myself I find Avada Kadavara to be my favored spell. I feel that to be a great wizard you must create your own wand as I have done. Avada Kadavra, crucio, Imperio, sectum sempra, locomotor, Flipendo, Incendio, reducto, and Of course MORSMORDE! HAHAHA. So go now and create your own wands, I favored a hand carved 16 inch wand made from Blood wood and ebony infused with mail unicorn hair. Go and find what is most powerful for you.

I agree, though I’m not quite so certain that muggles are ‘filthy’ as previously stated. I have come to respect them for the humans they are. They’re not magical, but at least they are intelligent- quite the opposite of some wizards.

Not all are filthy Im sure. My girlfriend has muggle parents and they dont seem to bad. I still dont see where she got her magical ability though, maybe it skips a few generations through being halfbloods and such…. either way You have to pity Lockhart…no matter how much of an asshole he can be… His need for attention is a disease!
