How would you hold your wand?
As I watching clips from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix today, specifically, the following video:
I noticed that each character holds their wands decidedly differently. For instance:
- Voldemort holds his loosely in the palm of his hand
- Bellatrix Lestrange holds her like a weapon, almost like a knife
- Harry holds his like he is holding a hammer or a tool
- Dumbledore holds his like a conductor’s wand
- Hermione holds hers like a pointer, or a chalk piece
- Ron holds his like a baseball bat
- Umbridge holds holds hers like she’s trying to blow bubbles with it
And on and on. Obviously, how a person holds their wands is directly related to their characters’ unique personality. Voldemort’s wand grip intrigues me the most; he always looks like he’s about to drop the thing, like he has no regard for it. Here’s a better clip to show you what I’m talking about:
See what I mean? Very intriguing.
So! Two things: If you had a wand, how would you hold it? I think I’m in the Hermione crowd; however, being that I’m excessively klutzy, I would probably fashion some sort of loop (kind of like on the Nintendo Wii controllers) so it wouldn’t get lost. Secondly, what do you think of how Voldemort holds his wand? What do you think it says about him?

interesting points. i did notice that they all hold their wands a little differently and also the way you hold your wand shows what kind of wizard you are, and a little bit of your character. eg, volders hardely holds his; its rests in the palm of his hand. it shows he’s too aragaunt (spelling?) to really care to hold his wand at all. and so on

yea, i think it’s really cool how they hold theirs differently– i have no idea why but the way ron holds his wand has annoyed me for a while lol. wendy– i’m totally the same with you… my personality and stuff is a lot like hermione so i’m guessing that’s how i’d hold my want but i am as clumsy- if not clumsier- than tonks lol

I would probablly hold it like a sword or a Rapier(search the word on google images…you’ll get what I mean when you see a Rapier) with a strong grip…as for old Voldy he always was a bit careless with his wand and used it as an accessiory, like he does everything else, and doesn’t really care that all his powers come from that piece of magically incanced Yew!!
