The Harry Potter lexicon trial is over, but no decision yet

The hearing with JK Rowling vs. Steven Vander Ark ended with closing arguments yesterday, but that doesn’t mean that the court reached a decision (they have until May 9 to hand down a ruling).
Opposing viewpoints on the lexicon were offered by two academic witnesses; one said that the reference was great for keeping all the hundreds of myriad characters straight; the other one said that the chapter references were inaccurate and the humor was “childish”.
JK Rowling chimed in with a few opinions of her own, including:
“These things have no existence outside my language and turns of phrase,” she said, later adding, “Are we or are we not the owners of our own work?”……. “Somehow because my work is successful, I’ve weakened my own right to copyright?” she asked. “This would inevitably lead to a slippery slope.”
This whole thing has made me uncomfortable, because obviously I love JK Rowling’s work, but I just don’t agree with her on this one.

You know, I’m still waiting as well…..What’s the ruling on this…..Personally, I don’t think she has a case. I feel really bad for the guy because I don’t think he went into this trying to rip her off. He did a darn good job and it’s been done before..example: LOTR’s Lexicons ect.. by outside people. So I think she’s behaving more selfishly than greedy. I love her books..never really cared for her….just something about the way she came across that rubbed me the wrong way. Now I understand it.. and so do alot of other people… how sad for Potter fans…
