Rare Harry Potter book to go for big bucks

by Wendy on March 19th, 2008

Got any rare Harry Potter books laying around? Because they could go for a LOT OF MONEY!!! Check this out:

A rare first edition of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone — one of only 500 printed — is up for auction today at Christie’s International in London. Christie’s expects the volume to fetch between £4,000 and £6,000 ($8,075 to $12,100) in bidding at the auction house’s South Kensington saleroom.

The book on offer has no dust jacket and no leather bindings, just the original colored board cover showing the bespectacled boy wizard (and his lightning-bolt scar) in front of the Hogwarts Express steam engine at Platform 9 3/4. Published in 1997, the first novel in the series that turned Rowling into a billionaire was considered to have such modest prospects that Bloomsbury Publishing ordered a first print run of just 500 copies. About 300 of those were distributed to libraries, Christie’s said. - source

You know what? I don’t think I would sell a book like that. That would become a family heirloom, in my opinion! How about you?
