Harry Potter currency converter!

March 15, 2008 by Wendy Boswell

Would you like to know how much a set of Bernie Bott’s Beans would cost if you could buy it in your local Safeway? In Harry Potter currency, let’s say it costs 17 sickles an ounce. So, enter 17 into the sickles box and click “Calculate.” There’s your answer: $4.82.

Now, would you like to know how much a ticket to the Harry Potter movie would cost if you could pay for it in wizard money? If a movie ticket costs $8.50 in your local theater, enter that amount in the dollars-and-cents box and click “Calculate.” Your movie ticket: 1 galleon, 13 sickles and 28 knuts.

    hmm.
I say you have miscalculated the converter.
I used math and algebra to figure this out.
If the set of Harry Potter coins advertized in the dvd of the Prisoner of Askaban is 29.50 (which it is) then a knut would transfer to 5.6 pennies, $1.63 for a sickle, and $27.80 for a galleon.
So if those prices are right in my terms,
a movie ticket should not cost $71.

    Also, If i am right,
Hagrid said that an issue of the Daily Prophet
would cost 5 knuts. It may just be a coincident,
but if so it transfer to 28 cents, the SAME amount of my towns newspaper.
    :o
