You know, I bought the Golden Compass trilogy, and I gave it a good try, but I just can not get into it. It’s very…..plodding, for lack of a better word. Of course, I had a new Stephen King novel to read, so maybe that influenced me! (the new one, Cell, is AWESOME, but you will be afraid to use your cell phone. Really.)

i would absolutely recommend the books of gregory maguire– especially ‘wicked’ (which has a sequel, ’son of a witch’) and ‘lost’. great reads.

likewise, christopher moore has published some brilliant novels, but i would recommend ‘lamb’ above all. i couldn’t put it down.

I have also been having trouble finding other things to read. I’m a middle school English teacher and I really enjoy adolescent literature. I read 4 1/2 of the Charlie Bones series, but moved and the local library doesn’t have any of them (grrr) and then I started reading The Series of Unfortunate Events, but the local library is missing a few books in the series so it’s impossible to complete.
