Daniel Radcliffe talks about coming to Broadway

The BBC has printed an article which gives us a few words from Dan on his upcoming Broadway debut of Equus:

Radcliffe told BBC News he was “incredibly excited” about the opportunity to appear in New York.

“Of course there’s nerves. If I wasn’t nervous then I would be dead,” he said.

“It’s a good thing, it’s healthy. I’m obviously nervous but I’m very very excited,” he added.

Despite the nerves Radcliffe is hopeful that the play, about a disturbed youngster who blinds horses, will be a hit.

“If we can get a straight play to really succeed in a world of theatre that is so besieged by musicals, that would be a real achievement and I think the time is absolutely right to do it there,” he said.

“For a kid who grew up listening to showbiz tunes in the car, Broadway is a big, big thing.

“All the people I know in New York say New York is ready for this kind of play,” he added.

Radcliffe’s co-star in the play, Richard Griffiths, will also reprise his role for the Broadway show.

The play’s director, designer and lighting director have all been recruited to go to New York too.

“I’ll be there with Richard so when people said it was a risk to do it in the first place you just have to look around the rehearsal room - with me and Richard Griffiths, Thea Sharrock, John Napier and David Hersey.

“I was just thinking, ‘If I screw up I’m going to be screwing up with better people around me’,” he said.

The Manchester Evening News also has a piece on Monday’s screening of Dan’s new ITV film; My Boy Jack at the Imperial War Museum in London.

Inside, the media gathered to watch a screening of My Boy Jack, a moving film to be screened on ITV1 this Remembrance Sunday.

It’s the story of Rudyard Kipling and his son who was killed during World War One – on the day after his 18th birthday.

Jack is played by Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, which explained the high turnout first thing on a Monday.

A change of tack, as someone else asked about his Broadway debut next year in Equus – reprising his naked West End role.

“I’m incredibly excited,” answered Daniel.

“I think we open about mid-September next year.

“Of course there’s nerves. If I wasn’t nervous, then I’d be dead. You have to feel nervous, I think. It’s a good thing, it’s healthy.”

And then a question about the moustache he sports for My Boy Jack.

Obviously not having seen Daniel talk about it on Saturday’s Parkinson, someone asked it it was real.

“It was glued on with industrial fresh glue every morning.

“I thoroughly enjoyed wearing it – in the morning.

“But every afternoon it would get a bit itchy and hot.

“It felt really masculine in the morning and just felt stupid in the afternoon.”
