Want to win some money for your writing? Aboon Books is holding a My-Name-Is-Harry writing contest:
Aboon Books is offering cash prizes of $400, $200 and $100 to the best three entries in the My-Name-Is-Harry Writing Contest. Writers must write a story that begins with the following four sentences:
My name is Harry. I try to avoid saying my whole name because everyone laughs, even nice people who try not to. I was born September 1, 1991, seven years before the first Harry Potter book was published in the United States. So my parents, Marc and Brianna Potter were unaware that they were ruining my life when they named me Harry.
Contest creator, Anne Emerick, is quick to state that My-Name-is-Harry is not affiliated, sponsored or endorsed by J. K. Rowling, her publishers, Warner Bothers or any other copyright or trademark holders. It is an unauthorized story about an ordinary teenager who has the same name as a very famous fictional character. The main character in each story must be an original creation of each author’s making. We know only his age, name, his parents’ names and that he was born in the United States. Any entries containing characters taken from other stories will be disqualified.
The winning entry will be distributed with each copy of Poster Girl, Aboon Books’ first chapter book, purchased from the publisher by July 21, 2007. Aboon Books has pledged to donate a dollar to the Room to Read for each book sold during this time. heres a hint to anyone who could have done better in the comp….blah blah blah.I try to avoid getting in trouble but in the end stupid draco always gives me away,thus I spend the next afternoon in detention with snape instead of having a lovely afternoon with Ginny or Ron and Hermoine. after that even any old monkey can continue!!!
