Anti-Harry Potter lady wants to appeal decision
Could this lady be any nuttier?
A suburban Atlanta mother who claims Harry Potter books teach children witchcraft said Wednesday that she will appeal the state’s decision to keep the best-selling books in Gwinnett County school libraries.
Laura Mallory, who has three children in elementary school, said she has requested an appeal of her case to Superior Court.
Mallory has tried to ban the books from Gwinnett County school library shelves since August 2005. She argues that the popular fiction series is an attempt to indoctrinate children in witchcraft.
School board members said the books are good tools to encourage children to read and to spark creativity and imagination. In May, the county decided to deny Mallory’s request.
The state Board of Education backed Gwinnett’s stance in December, voting without discussion to uphold the county’s decision.
Mallory said she’s ready for a legal fight. She said she’s already contacted a potential expert witness to lend support to her case. And she said supporters who urged her to continue the case have sent her “significant donations” to help pay legal fees.

I am a parent and I feel the Harry Potter books are not a threat to our children. I have read all 7 books before my kids read them. The books do not teach witchcraft. They are not instruction manuals. The are great works of fiction, like the novels of Charles Dickens, Mark Twain etc.. They are highly entertaining and have kids wanting to read. The books do teach life lessons, but not in the way Mrs. Mallory thinks. They show the tragedy of racism & bigotry. The stories greatly parrallel the horrible things that happened in WWII and show that good is better than evil.

I agree with you completely Shawna. My 12 year old and I read these books, discuss them, etc. and consider them great works of fiction. I think it’s sad when people like this decide to boycott something that they’ve never even read.

I have on 6 July 2007 filed a Writ of Summons at the Hong Kong Supreme Court, to sue JK Rowling, in her creating a large dump of rubbish - the Harry Potter. The legal action has been briefly reported by some Hong Kong Newspapers and Journals. The contents can be seen in the web site

I do think Harry Potter is just inferior, stupid and mind-polluting. There are strong analytical reasons to support my allegations in the Writ. It is in Chinese (40,000 words), sorry no English version available.
Best Regards,

i totally agree with Mallory playing with magic is bad.http://www.geocities.com/godluvsusoshea/antiharrypotter.html
here are a lot of people who love Harry Potter. There is no doubting that. But there are things people just don’t know about Harry Potter. Starting with magic and magic is wrong. So is sorcery and people who do sorcery. Wizards and Witches are bad too. They cast spells and think the power and magic they use is their own. Wrong. There is only two people who can give out power. God is one of them. And since God hates sorcery, he isn’t giving it out. The other person giving it out is the devil. Yes, he can do that too.
There is rumor going around that Harry Potter is symbolic to Jesus and Moses. That the “hardships” Harry went through are just like the ones Jesus or Moses went through. Now let me ask you this, did Harry Potter die for your sins so you could get to Heaven? No. Did he deliver you from your oppressors like Moses delivered the the children of Israel? No. Did he do anything that has to do with God or did he do anything nice for you? No. So how can anyone say Harry Potter is like Jesus and Moses?
Did you know that the author of Harry Potter (J. K. Rowling) is apart of the occult? Yes, she has been declared a witch. Isn’t it creepy to think that a witch is writing best seller books for children? And did you know that she stole the idea of Harry Potter from someone else and that there is a lawsuit against her? Click here to read about the lawsuit.
J.K. Rowling also said that she took more than a third of the content of these books from occult research. So, she has researched history, she has researched from mythology, and she admits that she has drawn from the religions of Celtic, druidic, satanic, Wiccan and pagan roots and written them into fiction books for children.
Aside from the author, there are billions of things wrong with Harry Potter.
Here is all they teach in this “school of magic” in these books: how to mix potions, how to put emphasis on spells, how to twist your arm and your wrist, and how to concentrate when you want things; and the powers that Harry is tapping into are the powers that kids think they can have. And some kids are innocent enough to try this stuff.
You know what’s even more wrong, that these Harry Potter books are allowed to be in schools and that you can’t even mention the Bible or God in schools.
People are wondering what the harm is. First of all, these books are saying that witchcraft is okay and normal. Kids these days read these books and watch the movie, which are made for kids, thinking that it’s okay to get into this stuff. Most parents don’t think these spells and things could ever happen, but they can! Witches, wizards, magic; it’s all part of this religion called the “occult”. And witches and wizards and magic is what these Harry Potter books have in them.
The Supreme Court has given witchcraft a religious status so this is a religion and that’s the proof of it. In the public schools, these books are being forced done children’s throats by teachers who like the books. The teachers really don’t care how you feel about the books or how you child feels about the books.
It’s interesting to note that if a child goes onto Scholastic website and types in Harry Potter, the child can log on to pornography or actual Wiccan sites that introduces a even bigger world of witchcraft. In some bookstores, not far away from the Harry Potter section, there are a teen witch kits.
Parents say that their kids doesn’t do the magic in these books. Aside from the magic, these books and movies are morally challenged. Harry cheats. Harry lies. Harry steals. His teachers steal. When Harry breaks the rules, the teachers don’t punish him. In fact, the teachers say rules are there to be broken. Children are learning from Harry and his witch buddies, that it’s okay to lie, cheat, steal, and to break the rules.
So basically, these books a bad for everyone. There are tons of books that are better than Harry Potter. There are a lot of other fantasy books out there, if that is what you’re looking for. Even Christian Fantasy books. I don’t know a whole lot about these books, but The Chronicle’s of Narnia sound interesting. I’m not sure what they are about, but I believe they are fantasy books.

How many kids really watch the movies or read the books and race to the book store and buy a book on the occult any smart non home schooled child knows that this is fiction. And if they don’t it is the parents fault. I have a 10 year old daughter and never once has she asked if witchcraft real or can you really fly. These are things we all know to be make believe. And to the pip idiot harry was sent to detention tons of times he was punished, And when they said rules are meant to be broken they were refering to rules set by the high inquistor that were rediculous to begin with. I bet you haven’t read the books either. Because you are weak minded and afraid that after you do read them you will be the first to turn to the darkside. A strong willed person will never let anything sway them from their convictions or morals.

Pip just went to the scholastic web site there are no links to porn. We all can see where your head is at. Time to get out of the closet and put that thing away. And get a life. And the teen witch kits ever picked one up, I have, they’re toys dumb ass T.O.Y.S. that spells toy. Which are not actual wiccan devices. To get these actual items you must go to an occult store not Barnes and Noble.

There is something you need to understand, “Harryhaters”, these books are FICTION. Yes, FICTION. MADE UP. NOT REAL. TOTALLY FAKE. Get it through your twisted mind. I happen to like Harry Potter, and after reading your words, I’m just about ready to kill, which is saying something, considering I’m a normally nice person.

Plus, if you don’t like Harry Potter, why are you even here? That just doesn’t make sense, so it basically means your stupid, weak-minded, and an idiot. There are also many other things I would like to put here, but they are very crude and disgusting.

Look, I’m 14 years old and I cam to the United States 7 years a go as a pure hater of reading…I point-blank hated to read end-of-story good buy!!! Until that is I picked up this little book called “harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”…now 7 years later (lol 7 years in Hogwarts School of Wichcraft and Wizardry…literally) I’v read all seven books, and hundreds more, and I’m one of the best writers in my Middle school and all because of one book. If this is not a testament to the power of Harry Potter and great writing then I don’t know what is. So people give it a rest…it’s made up, but it’s one HELL of an escape from reality and we defineatly need that in this world.

My child is in third grade. I just found out that her teacher is reading a harry potter book to the class and I am outraged. I cant believe that harry potter books are allowed in school. No bible, but they can read books about the devil.
I would love some input. I plan on calling the school and my child will step out of the classroom and not have her mind filled with this evil.I would love some advise on how to stop the teachers who think they can go against parents faith and beliefs.

dawn-what the hell are you saying? if you believe that why are you even on this site? this is a site for people who appreciate harry potter and things that go along with it. in NO way does harry potter relate to the devil. yes, there are a few evil characters but there are many more of those characters IN THE REAL WORLD. your third grader has to understand that everyone is not cheery and peaceful all the time. and how does this go against any beliefs? i am a catholic and my father is a theology teacher. he also enjoys the books, so i don’t understand why some people can be so against it for their ‘faith’ when the obviously haven’t read them. harry potter focuses on love and friendship, not the devil and evil. IT IS A MAKE-BELIEVE STORY IN A MAKE-BELIEVE WORLD! i started reading harry potter in second grade. i understood right from the start that this was a fictional story. any child who doesnt understand that is a. too young to understand anything or b. living in a bubble
and pulling a child out of a class just because of harry potter is completely idiotic. the book is not evil… give it a chance… rent the movie, anything! just dont jump to random (and completely WRONG) conclusions about something.
i am completely disgusted. that’s all i can say

I agree with Hermione247, i am a christian who believs in god, jesus and the church. I READ HARRY POTTER. I AM A COMPLETE ADDICT! And never once has God said to me stop reading harry potter. Honestly you people say that its evil when it is FICTION! MAKE BELIEVE! the ’spells’ she writes about are just latin words; and to those who don’t know history Latin is a language.
Ive read comments about people who will go to hell just because they read HP. If you call your selves real christians why don’t you let God decided that and stop putting yourselves up as judge and get off this site. If you don’t like it, don’t read it; just don’t slam something you a)haven’t read or b) don’t understand. And don’t stop your kid from reading HP just because you don’t like it. They are entitled to their opinion: that is why God gave us free will (to make our own choices)
Evidently you are interested in Harry Potter otherwise you wouldn’t take the time to go on Harry Potter sites.
Reading all these anti harry potter comments just makes me sick and like Hermione247, disgusts me. GO HP!!!!!!!!!

What really annoys me is that Laura hasn’t even read the books! Before judging, please, at least be sensible and read the books. I am a twelve year old girl who has a passion for reading and I know first hand what I’m talking about. Harry Potter has lessons to be learned within the pages and I feel heart broken for Laura’s children who are never going to be able to pick up this marvelous book.
And Dawn, I would be thrilled if my children were reading these books! How dare you sat they support the devil! Before you judge, read the books! You will soon after find that these books have a meaning full message. It really gets me sick to my stomache when I hear things like this. And no one’s making your child or any of you Harry Potter haters read the books, but leave the people who want to read and learn the heck alone!!!
